'qualified' to be called a quilter?!

Over at Lily Pad Quilting, Jacque is having a fun 'Go to Jail' party (remember playing the Monopoly board game?!) to see if there's enough 'evidence' to 'convict' those who say they're a quilter.

Maybe because I used to homeschool my two girls, or maybe because I've always loved words, I wanted to begin by defining the word 'quilter'.  According to my beloved 'The New Oxford American Dictionary' the word 'quilt' is:  "noun - a warm bed covering made of padding enclosed between layers of fabric and kept in place by lines of stitching; typically applied in a decorative design."

Nope, never made a quilted bed covering, but am most fortunate to own a few hand-quilted family heirlooms.....
Let's continue reading... a little further down in the definition of 'quilt':  "verb - join together layers of fabric or padding with lines of stitching to form a bed covering or a warm garment, or for decorative effect."

'or for decorative effect' - yes, this definition could work for me

Now let's look at some of the projects I've completed and figure out if there's enough 'evidence' to claim the 'quilter' title.  I've included links under the photos to its corresponding post.

I've made quilted bookcovers...

....quilted baby nametags....

'sugar and spice'
...pinwheel blocks to contribute to a prayer quilt...

....quilted a little bag....

...my recent quilt block journey as I struggle to learn correct piecing....
Bowtie
Linoleum
Flying Geese
Shoo Fly
..... and finally my personalized quilted wallhanging for my youngest daughter's 21st birthday...

This has been fun to evaluate my work as a 'quilter'.   Thank you Jacque for offering such a unique party!  Maybe next year, I'll have more 'evidence' to 'submit'.

  3. Hi Lisa, Thanks so much for directing me over here! I admit to mostly keeping up with your gardening blog! If you're going to start quilting, I'll definitely have to make this blog one of my stops! :) I think you qualify! And i recognize that little quilted bag that you gave to one of the girls! Thank you!

I think I call myself a quilter, but honestly, I'm not sure there's enough to convict me!!! I read quilting blogs, look at my stash, attend the monthly quilt class, put quilting buttons on my sidebar, but....where's anything to show for it all??? LOL! I'll have to get busy!!! Loved your post.

    1. Of ALL people, you should question yourself?! You have made some of the most beautiful quilts and the one that immediately comes to mind is the 'cupcake' quilt you made for your daughter Sarah. Yes, you are definitely 'guilty'!!! Thanks Deb!
