Day 12 / Me-Made-May 2015 / Do 2 see-through tops layered together = 1 wearable 'look'?

Today's post title was this morning's ponder.  What do you think?
I think it works!
A few weeks ago I made this oh-so-lovely, and oh-so-soft Kirsten Kimono Tee, taking my time to bond with my serger that produced beautiful serged 4-thread seams along with lovely, un-stretched-out double-needle top-stitching on my sewing machine.  All to find, this cute little top was see-through.... extremely see-through.... waaaayyy too see-through!
In short order, I came up with the oh-so-clever idea (ha!) of a self-fabric matching cami to wear underneath.  With just enough fabric to piece center front and center back seams together, McCall's M4979, view B, sewed up quickly.  All to find.... it looked strange, in a most weird sort of way, underneath the Kirsten.  Completely unwearable.  A big fail.  *sigh*
All was put in the closet until today when I began to ponder, would the see-through Kirsten coordinate with the see-through self-drafted floaty top and all would be well in the world?!  :)  In my little world..... it works!  The two tops are paired with the Simplicity 7131 elastic-waist pants.
And to catch up a little Day 10/Me-Made-May 2015..... Mother's Day Sunday was lovely.  I wore the NEWLOOK 6108 skirt modified for a woven and stripe manipulation, with another Kirsten Kimono Tee with my hardworking and most loved item right now.... the Cardi from Happy Homemade Sew Chic by Yoshiko Tsukiori, Pattern N.
The other Me-Made-May days I am not photographing because they are outside garden days and unphotographable.  :)  We are experiencing high 80s - 90 degree F temps, feeling more like our hot, humid, dog-days-summer, than our usual mild Spring May days.  Miserable.
Happy Sewing Everyone!

  1. I think you have solved the problem very well - the two tops are made for each other :)

  2. The pink camisole is so pretty! I wouldn't have thought that it would not work. But now you have a camisole that you can wear with other tops!
Oh I really hope you will find a way to wear your pink kimono tee because it is so pretty, it needs to be worn and "showcased". I don't think that's the appropriate word, but I think you know what I mean. Maybe when the weather gets cooler you can layer it a white long sleeve tshirt under it? Or wear it over a white shirt with collar?
Meanwhile, it works perfectly under your floaty top, the little touch of pink peeking out from the blue floral. I have always loved these floaty chiffon-like tops. It's difficult to find these floaty fabrics in the shops here, or maybe I don't know where to look!
Hope the weather cools down, I know those hot humid days, they are my everyday :( unless it rains :)

  3. The two tops together are lovely but what a pity you can't let the Kirsten Tee have it's day in the sun. :) It's such a pretty pink.

  4. These are winners together. I love to see sewers find ways to make it work :-)

  5. Thank you so much ladies for all your kind words! Hmmm, a few creative ideas of how to let the Kirsten Tee shine on its own has given me something to think about.
